Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli have steadily expanded their real estate portfolio in Alibaug, making the coastal destination one of their preferred retreats. The couple recently grabbed attention after reportedly purchasing a five-acre plot worth Rs 40 crore. Before that, they had acquired another property for Rs 19 crore and later spent an additional Rs 13 crore to transform it into their dream holiday home.Designed by an international architecture firm, the luxurious villa is built across a 10,000-square-foot plot and reflects a seamless blend of California and Konkan-inspired architecture. The residence incorporates an array of natural materials, including pristine stone, exotic Italian marble, raw travertine and Turkish limestone, creating an elegant yet earthy atmosphere.The holiday home houses four bedrooms and four bathrooms, with interiors dominated by white and earthy hues accented by black and brown tones. Upon entering, visitors are welcomed by a calm, minimalist foyer, while a striking staircase wall clad in exotic Italian marble serves as one of the home’s standout design elements.The expansive living room has been intentionally kept free of clutter. Featuring soaring double-height ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the swimming pool, the space is flooded with natural light, enhancing its understated elegance.Sharing what makes the living room special, Virat told Architectural Digest, “The most important thing for me in a holiday home is the feeling you get when you enter. The place has to be absolutely relaxed, centred, peaceful—just feeling at home away from your regular home.”He further said, “This is the living room. The most interesting feature for me was the double-height cutout within the living space, which is very important to me because I love natural light.”One of the home’s most distinctive features is its deliberate lack of conventional entertainment systems. Instead of a television, the living room has been designed as a place where the family can spend quality time together without distractions.“There is no television or other source of entertainment here. This is where all the conversations take place,” Virat said.For the former India captain, the holiday home represents much more than a luxurious escape. It is also a place where he can create family moments he feels he missed while growing up due to his demanding cricket schedule.Reflecting on the significance of the dining space, he said, “I really value and cherish having meals together as a family. That is because I didn’t do enough of that as a kid myself, because most of the day I was out practising and stuff.”Having dedicated much of his childhood to pursuing cricket and rising from humble beginnings to become one of the sport’s greatest players, Virat says his priorities have shifted with time.“I always look forward to running back home,” Virat said. Explaining how his priorities have changed, he added, “Work is a small part of my life and not the other way around.”The villa’s outdoor spaces are equally impressive, with a peaceful porch overlooking a temperature-controlled swimming pool and jacuzzi finished in rare Balinese Sukabumi stone. The property is surrounded by lush greenery, creating a tranquil environment for relaxation.Adding to its luxury, the residence also features a fully customised kitchen and a range of smart home technologies, including circadian lighting that mirrors the natural progression of sunlight, gas-leak detectors, and advanced air and water filtration systems.Although the villa comprises four bedrooms and four bathrooms, Virat says the master bedroom remains his favourite space in the house.“It is always your room that you come back to and allow yourself to switch off from everything else,” he said.The master suite stays true to the home’s earthy design language with soothing shades of beige, off-white and brown. A feature television wall finished in Italian marble introduces a subtle touch of opulence while maintaining the room’s calm and minimalist aesthetic.
