Ranveer Singh-starrer ‘Dhurandhar’ continues to break new ground. After a record-setting run at the box office, the Aditya Dhar directorial has now won praise from Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos, who called it the most-watched non-English film in the world this year. Speaking about the rising global appetite for Indian content, he said India has firmly arrived on the world stage, with Dhurandhar leading the way.

What did Ted Sarandos say about ‘Dhurandhar’

Speaking at Express Adda, Ted Sarandos highlighted the film’s massive viewership on the platform. He said, “‘Dhurandhar’ was the most-watched non-English movie in the world this year. Bigger than every other English [movie] and second only to the US and the UK in terms of watching.”The first film recorded 37 million views between January and June 2026 and topped Netflix charts in 22 countries. Together, the two ‘Dhurandhar’ films have earned more than Rs 3,100 crore worldwide, with the sequel, ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, becoming the first Bollywood film to cross the Rs 1,000 crore net mark in India.Addressing a question he often hears about when India will get its own ‘Squid Game’ or ‘Money Heist’ moment, Sarandos said the comparison misses the point. He shared, “I hear a lot when I travel around the world, particularly in India, is like what happened with ‘Squid Game’, what happened with ‘La casa de papel’, when is India going to have that moment? And I say India has that moment all the time. It’s much more likely to be in cinema.Sarandos went on to say, “I think, right now, because there is this enormous, beautiful, rich, long history of movies in India. I think when we came in and made ‘Sacred Games’, it was a whole different kind of television, so through most of the history and all that that’s coming through, it’s likely to come through in the form of cinema.”
