The digital rights of Nayanthara‘s upcoming fantasy comedy ‘Mookuthi Amman 2’ have reportedly attracted strong interest even before the film reaches theatres. The sequel, directed by Sundar C, is one of the notable projects in Nayanthara’s upcoming line-up. Nayanthara’s ‘Mookuthi Amman 2′ locks massive OTT deal
According to an update shared by industry tracker Ramesh Bala, the makers of ‘Mookuthi Amman 2’ have reportedly closed an OTT deal with JioHotstar. The exact value of the agreement has not been officially revealed, but the deal is said to be for a substantial amount. The digital rights development comes as the film continues to build anticipation around its theatrical release. The sequel is also expected to bring a bigger scale to the fantasy comedy genre, with Nayanthara returning in a key role.
Regina Cassandra to play antagonist in ‘Mookuthi Amman 2’
The sequel has also generated interest with the reported casting of Regina Cassandra as the main antagonist. Her role is expected to add a new conflict to the story and create a different dynamic around Nayanthara’s character. ‘Mookuthi Amman 2’ follows the 2020 film of the same name, which featured Nayanthara as a deity. The original movie was directed by RJ Balaji and NJ Saravanan and was released directly on OTT during the pandemic. It followed a journalist named Engels, whose life changes after the deity of his ancestral temple appears before him. The film used fantasy and humour to take on fake godmen and social issues.
‘Mookuthi Amman 2’ adds to Nayanthara’s busy line-up
The sequel comes at a busy phase in Nayanthara’s career, with the actress also gearing up for several other major releases. She will next be seen in Yash‘s ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’, directed by Geetu Mohandas. The action drama is set against a stylised underworld backdrop and also stars Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi and Rukmini Vasanth. Toxic is scheduled for release on August 26, 2026. Nayanthara will also headline the romantic comedy-drama ‘Hi’ alongside Kavin, set to arrive on August 28.
