The UP Transformation Dialogues – Gorakhpur Summit, a flagship initiative by The Times of India, brought together policymakers, industry leaders, experts, entrepreneurs and change-makers to discuss the transformation taking place in Gorakhpur and across Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The summit, titled “The Eastern Resurgence: UP Transformation Dialogues – Gorakhpur Edition,” focused on healthcare, industry, connectivity, infrastructure, investment, law and order, and skilling, while examining how these changes could shape the region’s future. At the summit, actor and Gorakhpur Lok Sabha MP Ravi Kishan delivered the keynote address, highlighting the region’s changing economic landscape, improved infrastructure and growing opportunities for its people.
Ravi Kishan highlights Eastern UP’s changing landscape
Speaking about the region’s development, Ravi Kishan said, “Eastern Uttar Pradesh is no longer what it used to be; it is now witnessing an unprecedented resurgence across industry, connectivity, and development.” He highlighted the improvements in road, rail and air connectivity, describing modern infrastructure as an important factor in creating opportunities for businesses and communities. According to him, better connectivity is also helping Gorakhpur emerge as a more attractive destination for investment. On inviting investors to the region, Kishan said, “Gorakhpur is open for business, offering seamless law and order, top-tier infrastructure, and vast opportunities for investors from across the country.” He also pointed to improved law and order as an important foundation for economic growth. Speaking about the change, he said, “The era of gang wars and mafia rule in Eastern UP is completely over; establishing zero-tolerance security was the single biggest step to restore investor confidence.”
From youth migration to local opportunities
A major theme of Kishan’s speech was the need to create enough opportunities for young people within Eastern Uttar Pradesh so they do not have to leave the region to build their careers. “Our youth no longer need to migrate to big metro cities like Mumbai or Delhi to fulfil their dreams; the opportunities, industrial hubs, and platforms are all being built right here,” he said. Kishan also highlighted Gorakhpur’s growing healthcare infrastructure, pointing to institutions such as AIIMS Gorakhpur and BRD Medical College as part of the region’s changing healthcare landscape. The MP further stressed the importance of promoting Gorakhpur’s traditional terracotta craft and connecting local artisans with wider markets. “Promoting local crafts like Gorakhpur’s famous terracotta globally through dedicated support and modern supply chains is crucial for rural employment,” he said.Reflecting on the visible changes in Gorakhpur, Kishan added, “When you look at the new roads, air connections, and urban facilities, Gorakhpur now rivals top modern infrastructure standards. If anyone still fails to see this change, then ‘if you’re blind, what can we do?’” The summit brought these developments together under the broader theme of Eastern Resurgence, focusing on how a changing Gorakhpur could contribute to a more connected, competitive and opportunity-rich future for Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
