Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have been together for years now and share three children, Willow, Jaden, and Trey. For years, the two have been quite candid about their journey into parenthood and how everything went for them all of this time. However, there are certain things and pieces of advice that the actor keeps close to himself years later.
Will Smith talks about children and parenthood
While in conversation with ‘Heart Breakfast,’ a popular radio show, Smith weighed in on parenting tips and how he and Pinkett agreed on one specific thing. The actor also shared that there was one singular rule that he and his wife used to follow in their household starting from when I was extremely well.He shared, “I’m not advocating for it. We made a deal really young with our kids. The deal was if you tell the truth, you won’t get in trouble. The only way you can get in trouble in this house is if we find out you did something and you don’t tell the truth.” However, he did add that this was a mistake that they learned from later in life.Smith mentioned, “It’s a mistake. It’s terrible because they do whatever they want, and they just come tell you. It’s awful; don’t try it. You want your kids to lie. You definitely don’t want to know some of the stuff your kids are thinking of doing.”
Will Smith on why he never punishes their children
The ‘Men in Black’ also talked to E News in another segment. He shared that one of the most important things that he had cared for was when his children were young. He added, “We don’t do punishment. The way that we deal with our kids is that they are responsible for their lives. Our concept is, as young as possible, give them as much control over their lives as possible, and the concept of punishment, our experience has been—it has a little too much of a negative quality.”He also mentioned how one of the most important things about surviving in the entertainment industry comes from the fact that you need to prioritise your family. He also shared that one of the things that he and his wife ensured was always there in their household, above all, respect. “There’s a concept of your children being property, and that was a major part that Jada and I released with our kids. We respect our children the way we would respect any other person. Things like cleaning up their room. You would never tell a full-grown adult to clean their room, so we don’t tell our kids to clean their rooms,” he said while talking to Haute Living.On the work front, Will Smith recently announced that filming has officially begun for his upcoming action-thriller film called ‘Superma.’
