“When a woman starts earning, the impact ripples through...”: Gig worker couple earns up to ₹1 lakh a month, enrolls child in school ‘with ₹1.5 lakh annual fees’

A woman’s decision to take up work can sometimes have an impact far beyond her own income. A recent LinkedIn post by Sai Kiran Singanamala, a senior director at home services platform Snabbit, highlighted one such example, describing how a woman working as an expert with the company was able to contribute significantly to her family’s household income. According to Singanamala, the woman had been associated with the company for four months when he spoke to her. He said she told him that her family was now able to afford a school for her child with annual fees of ₹1.5 lakh. Her husband works as an auto driver, and Singanamala said the couple together earns around ₹80,000 to ₹1 lakh every month. The post has since drawn attention on LinkedIn, with several users discussing how women’s participation in the workforce can affect household finances, children’s education and a family’s sense of security.

Woman’s income becomes part of family’s financial progress

Sharing the experience on LinkedIn, Singanamala wrote, “A few days ago, I spoke to one of our experts who has been with us for just 4 months.” He then explained the financial situation the woman described to him. “She told me she was able to put her child in a school with ₹1.5L annual fees. Her husband is an auto driver, and together they now earn around ₹80K– ₹1L a month,” he wrote. Singanamala said the conversation made him think about the wider effect that a woman’s income can have on her family. “It made me realise how much a woman earning ₹30–40K can change a family’s life. Better education. More financial security. More confidence,” he said. The figures in the post were presented as the employee’s account of her family’s earnings. Singanamala did not provide further details about the woman’s identity, her child’s school or the family’s financial situation before she began working with the platform. Still, the example points to a familiar reality for many households where more than one family member contributes to monthly expenses. An additional income can help families manage education costs and other household needs while potentially reducing dependence on a single earner.

Social media users highlight impact of women’s employment

The story prompted several LinkedIn users to discuss the broader importance of employment opportunities for women. One person described this section of the workforce as having significant potential and called for greater investment and disruption to help society progress. Another user focused on the effect of a woman’s earnings on the entire household, writing, “Absolutely! When a woman starts earning, the impact often ripples through the entire family. Stories like these remind us that meaningful employment is about dignity, empowerment, and creating a better future for the next generation.” A third commenter similarly linked women’s income with changes in family prospects.“When a woman earns, a family’s future changes. Jobs create income, but skills and respect create confidence. Beautiful story,” the user wrote. Another LinkedIn user also connected the woman’s professional growth with the family’s future, commenting, “This is what meaningful entrepreneurship looks like… when one woman’s growth becomes an entire family’s hope. I would know.”

Beyond the monthly income

The discussion around the post was not limited to the amount the couple earns. Much of the reaction focused on what an additional income can make possible for a family. In the example shared by Singanamala, the woman’s reported earnings became part of a household where her husband was already working as an auto driver. Together, the couple reportedly earns between ₹80,000 and ₹1 lakh a month. Singanamala presented the story as an example of how earning opportunities for women can influence decisions around education, financial stability and confidence. At the same time, the post represents one individual account rather than evidence that all gig workers experience similar income levels or outcomes. Earnings in gig work can vary depending on factors such as the type of work, hours, location and demand. For this family, however, the story shared by Singanamala reflects how an opportunity to earn can become part of a larger household goal, with the reported income helping the family provide for their child’s education and build greater financial security.
