Moving to a new city for work often comes with one big concern: will the salary be enough to cover the bills? Bengaluru has become the subject of this question in a Reddit discussion, where users shared their experiences of managing daily expenses on modest incomes. While some recommended cutting costs wherever possible, others spoke about surviving on salaries that were even lower than Rs 30,000 a month.

Bengaluru Reddit User Seeks Advice On Monthly Budget

The discussion began when a person planning to move to Bengaluru next month asked whether their income would be enough to live near Cubbon Park or HSR Layout. The user expects to earn Rs 23,000 a month and receive an additional Rs 10,000 from their father.Sharing their concern, they wrote, “So I will be moving to Bangalore next month / My salary will be around 23k in hand. I can get 10k from my father every month. Is 30k enough to survive in Bangalore. NEAR CUBBAN PARK OR HSR LAYOUT?”The post prompted suggestions from people who shared ways to manage living costs without spending beyond their means.

Reddit Users Recommend Shared PGs And Lower Food Expenses

One commenter advised the person not to compare their income with the high salaries often discussed on social media. They suggested choosing shared accommodation, using public transport and avoiding eating out regularly. The user wrote, “Don’t listen to others and the fomo of 50LPA posts. Live in a shared pg, try to get groceries and cook once, use public transport, don’t eat out. Any saved money spend AI/upskilling subscriptions or stop cooking as it will save time and get a tiffin service, try to be close to office but in these areas you’ll have to live in a cramped shared space. And good luck to you! It is very well survivable.”

‘I Easily Survived With 17k In Hand,’ Says Reddit User

Another user suggested staying in a paying guest (PG) accommodation that provides three meals a day. They estimated that the cost could range from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000, depending on the number of people sharing a room.Sharing their experience, the commenter wrote, “I donno why this fear mongering exists. If you are careful with your spendings then its more than enough. Stay in a PG which provides 3 times food and then your sorted for the basic necessities. It can cost from 5k to 10k based on the number of sharing you prefer. I easily surved with 17k inhand, i was staying in a 4 sharing room and was paying 5k. I sent 10k home, and out of the 2k remaining i was able to save 1k at the month end. Its a frugal lifestyle but not impossible.”

Other Reddit Users Share Their Salaries

The discussion also included people who said they were managing on different monthly incomes. One commenter wrote, “Me surviving with 16.5 k in hand,”Another user shared their experience of living on Rs 25,000, writing, “I’m surviving with 25k and it’s enough if u don’t go for parties clubbing every weekend tbh.”Disclaimer: This article is based on a discussion shared on Reddit.
