Rings, chains and other small jewellery pieces accumulate a surprising amount of everyday grime, lotion residue, dust, the occasional bit of soap, in the tiny crevices between stones or along engraved detailing. Soaking the piece briefly in a mild solution of dish soap and warm water, then going over it gently with a toothbrush, lifts out buildup from spots too small for fingers or a cloth to reach. The same trick works well on small decorative items around the house, artificial flowers, ornate photo frames, costume jewellery, anywhere fine detail tends to trap dust that a duster just skates past.
