‘I was hungry, but too tired to eat’: Woman breaks down over job that leaves her no time to eat or quit - highlights toxic work culture in India

Woman breaks down over job that leaves her too busy to eat or look for another oneImagine being so busy at work that you don’t even have time to eat. And when you finally finish for the day, you’re too exhausted to have dinner. That’s what one woman says she’s been going through. In a video shared on her Instagram account, processingonrecord, she opened up about a workday that stretched until 1 am. By the time she was done, she was hungry but simply didn’t have the energy to eat.The next day wasn’t much better. By 3 pm, she still hadn’t eaten anything.“I worked until 1 am last night. I couldn’t have dinner because by the time I finished work, it was so late that I just wanted to sleep. I was hungry, but I was too tired to eat,” she said, visibly emotional. And it wasn’t just one particularly bad day. She described a workload where everything seems to be urgent, leaving her feeling like there’s no real chance to stop.“There’s so much work, and everything is urgent. It’s 3 pm now, and I still haven’t been able to eat anything because everything needs to be done as soon as possible. I feel so helpless,” she said, fighting back tears.

‘I can’t even resign’

What makes the situation harder is that she doesn’t feel she can simply walk away from the job.She has a family to support, so quitting isn’t something she can afford to do. But at the same time, the job is taking up so much of her time that she can’t even sit down and look for another one.“I can’t even resign at this point because I have to put food on the table for my family. And I can’t look for another job because I’m so busy with this one. I feel like I’m stuck in some kind of loop, in a web that I can’t get myself out of,” she said. The video struck a chord with people in the comments, with many sharing their own experiences of dealing with workplaces where everything somehow becomes an emergency. One Instagram user told her not to let work take over basic things like lunch and dinner.“Urgency is an illusion until you entertain it. Never skip your lunch or dinner timings. No one will force you to work during those periods if you have set your boundaries clearly,” the comment read.Another person said that constantly saying yes to new tasks without asking what needs to be prioritised can make the situation even worse. But some commenters weren’t interested in giving work advice at all. They were more worried about her.One user urged her to tell her manager and team how badly the workload was affecting her, pointing out that she was a person before she was an employee and needed time to eat and rest.Others told her to start putting some boundaries around her personal time, warning that constantly working through every “urgent” task could eventually leave her completely burnt out.For many watching the video, though, the most relatable part wasn’t even the long hours. It was the feeling of being stuck: needing the salary to survive, while having so little time and energy left that finding a way out starts to feel impossible.
