When Harshit Surekha dropped his lakhs worth MacBook, he never thought he would ever get to see it again! But “do you believe in Karma”, that’s exactly what he asked when he found it back and shared an emotional video on his Instagram profile. A few days back, a routine ride home from the gym in Bengaluru turned into a tense late-night search for Bihar-based traveller Harshit Sureka after a box attached to his motorcycle fell off in heavy rain. It carried his MacBook and other belongings. The laptop was worth around ₹2 lakh.It could easily have been lost for good. But instead, an honest e-rickshaw driver named Shivam Raj, became a hero as he was the one who found the box and kept everything safe. He eventually returned it to Sureka and refused to accept any reward for his honesty.A ₹2 lakh MacBook disappearedAccording to the video where Sureka shared his experience, the incident took place at around 10 PM when he was returning home after a gym session. On that particular night, Bengaluru was experiencing heavy rain. Sureka was in a hurry because he had a trip planned for the following day.During the ride, the top box fixed to the rear of his motorcycle apparently came loose and fell along the route. It was only after reaching home and getting off his motorcycle that he realised the box was missing. “My heartbeat reached 500”, he says in the video.Inside it was his MacBook, worth approximately ₹2 lakh. “It was like my personal diary”, he says further in the video.He retraced 3-4 km in the rainSureka immediately retraced his route through the rain and searched roughly 3-4 km of road. On the way, he stopped people and kept asking whether they had noticed a box falling from a motorcycle. His search eventually produced a crucial lead. He was told that the box had fallen at a particular location and that an e-rickshaw driver had picked it up.Sureka then had no other option but to a nearby police station to report the loss. But while there, he remembered something that would prove to be unexpectedly useful: the box carried stickers displaying his Instagram and YouTube handles.That small detail created a way for the person who found the box to identify its owner.The much-awaited Instagram message

Before he could report to the police, Sureka checked his Instagram profile. There he saw a message he was waiting for. The e-rickshaw driver Shivam Raj had managed his personal contact number.Sureka immediately called him, and the driver confirmed that he had found the missing box.But the story was not over yet. Sureka had to travel another 4-5 km in the opposite direction to meet the driver. When they finally met, he saw the box and breathed a sigh of relief. There was his life, his MacBook along with his other belongings inside.Driver refuses moneyRelief quickly turned into gratitude. Sureka offered Shivam Raj money as a token of appreciation for keeping them safe. But he, however, reportedly refused to accept the money.That gesture became the most striking part of the story. The driver had found belongings worth around ₹2 lakh, but instead of treating the discovery as an opportunity to make money, he simply tried to locate their owner and return them.“The world is a very nice place”

Sureka later shared the experience in an Instagram video, thanking Shivam and reflecting on what had happened. Rather than focusing only on the anxiety of losing an expensive laptop, he used the experience to make a broader point about how easily people can become cynical after hearing stories of dishonesty and wrongdoing.He urged people not to be too quick to judge others and said that despite the existence of bad people, there are also good people who quietly do the right thing.A small act of honesty and humanityLosing a ₹2 lakh device would be stressful for anyone. The story could easily have ended very differently. Instead, a box that disappeared into the rain was found by a stranger who did not keep it or demand money. He used the information available on the box to help reconnect it with its owner and returned everything intact.Sometimes, it takes nothing more than humanity and honesty to restore someone’s faith in people.
