India's first Hydrogen Train to launch on July 17: What every rail traveller should know; fare, schedule and more

In a recent update, Indian Railways is ready to write history by launching the country’s first indigenous hydrogen-powered passenger train this July. It will mark a milestone in India’s journey towards cleaner and more sustainable rail travel. And the date decided for the much-awaited launch is July 17. The train is expected to be flagged off from Jind railway station in Haryana and will operate on the Jind–Sonipat section under Northern Railway. The news has left rail lovers and travellers excited as this is going to be more than just another train launch. The train offers the chance to experience a new generation of railway technology that replaces conventional diesel with hydrogen fuel cells, producing only water vapour and heat as by-products. So the journey is going to be emission-free.More about the Hydrogen-powered train:A historic first for Indian RailwaysThe project was approved by the Ministry of Railways in May this year. As per the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the Railway Board has cleared the introduction of a 10-car indigenous hydrogen fuel cell train equipped with a 1,200 kW hydrogen propulsion system. The train will run on a maximum operational speed of 75 km/hr. The PIB called the project a significant step towards “greener and more energy-efficient rail operations”.What travellers should expect

This means travellers can experience India’s newest rail innovation without burning a hole in their pockets. Why hydrogen trains matterUnlike diesel trains emitting carbon dioxide and particulate pollution, hydrogen-powered trains’ only emissions are water vapour and heat, making them environmentally friendly. Also, hydrogen trains are quieter and require less maintenance. Future of rail travel
