Residents are stockpiling food and medicines, packing to leave the capital and preparing for renewed fighting as threats against Iran intensify and anxiety grows over possible attacks after elections in Israel and US.Fereshteh Hajipour (35), the mother of a toddler, said she was stocking up on over-the-counter medicines and food for fear of a “possible war and bigger bombs.” Gym trainer Hashem Vajdani (45) said he had packed his belongings and planned to move to a safer northern town.Mohammad Abedi (39) said increased attacks around Strait of Hormuz had prompted him to buy dried dates, cooking oil and rice for his family. “I’m worried that the situation could get worse,” he said.Rising prices and shortages have compounded fears. Mohammad Mohammadi (36) said a supermarket visit could consume half a mid-range monthly salary of 400 million rials (roughly $150). Rice prices have risen more than 60% since the conflict began and beef prices over 150%.Other Tehran residents also described growing anxiety, and some said they were preparing to leave the city as fears of larger bombs and renewed attacks spread among families across the capital.Sasan Karimi, a former govt official and University of Tehran foreign policy professor, said Iran’s leadership expected further strikes regardless of US midterm election result. “They’ve accepted that he will attack us again, before or after the elections,” Karimi said. It makes no difference. Their hostility toward us remains unchanged,” said Rasool Ghanbari (50).
