Nishita Kaal is the most sacred time for Shivratri puja. Nishita Kaal Puja time in 2026 will be from 11:59 PM to 12:43 AM on 12th August. It will take about 43 minutes.Many people also perform four-prahar pujas during the night. The first prahar begins in the evening, and the last prahar lasts till early morning.

Sawan Shivratri 2026 Bhadra Check

Major religious activity should be done after getting the Bhadra confirmed. Bhadra will be effective from 10:22 PM on August 10, 2026, to 11:34 AM on August 11, 2026.This means the main Sawan Shivratri evening puja and Nishita Kaal puja will not fall on Bhadra. Devotees are allowed to do Jalabhishek and night worship at the end of Bhadra. Those who strictly follow the panchang rules can avoid major sankalp and special offerings during the time of Bhadra.

Jalabhishek Vidhi for Sawan Shivratri

Get up early and have a bath. Sit in front of a picture of Lord Shiva or Shivling and wear clean clothes. For the vrat and puja, take a simple sankalp.First, offer clean water to the Shivling. Give milk, curd, honey, ghee and sugar if available. Then offer water to wash the Shivling. Offer belpatra, white flowers, sandalwood paste, akshat, fruits, and dhatura.Chant “Om Namah Shivaya” while performing Jalabhishek. If you know the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra, you may also chant that. Make the puja simple and peaceful. Lord Shiva values devotion more than grand offerings.

Sawan Shivratri Vrat Rules

On Sawan Shivratri, many devotees keep fast throughout the day. Some people eat only fruits, milk and water. After doing puja, some people eat a sattvik meal. Avoid alcohol, onion, garlic, non-vegetarian food, anger and harsh speech.Devotees stay awake all night and worship Lord Shiva. It is believed that listening to Shivratri Katha, chanting Shiva mantras, and offering water to the Shivling can help remove fear, stress, and problems from life.
