Selena Gomez launched the Rare Impact Fund in 2020, and 1 per cent of all Rare Beauty sales is donated to it. The initiative is part of her commitment to “addressing mental health and self-acceptance”.“Mental health is personal for me. I went a long time without the support I needed because I didn’t understand what I was feeling. After experiencing what seemed like endless highs and lows that would take me out for weeks at a time, I finally found the help to see what I was going through. But I’m learning every day that supporting my mental health is a journey. Every day isn’t perfect, not for me, not for anyone. And too many people don’t have access to the mental health resources and education they need,” Selena Gomez said earlier. The initiative has raised more than $30 million since launching and supports 30 non-profit partners across five continents, reaching 3.5 million young people annually. “We are mobilising $100 million in contributions for youth mental health.”“Shining a light on youth mental health is something we cannot do alone, and having their support not only inspires me, but directly touches the lives of millions of young people around the world,” Gomez said.During the event, Gomez introduced the Katherine Short Legacy Award. It honours Katherine Short, 42, who died in February and was the daughter of Gomez’s Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short.“There is one part of tonight that means a lot to me,” the pop star said as she introduced the new award. “Katherine was a social worker who devoted her own career to helping people through some of their hardest points. This award will carry her name forward by honouring people who have made that same kind of commitment to their communities.”“Marty has been my friend for many years, and I know how deeply he loves his family. I’m very grateful that he’s here tonight to help us present it for the first time,” she added.Meanwhile, Selena Gomez wore a red Prada gown for the evening and later changed into a second embellished dress by the fashion house. She also talked about how married life had been treating her. “Can’t complain, man! Highly suggest it,” she said. “It’s pretty wonderful. I adore him and love him, so I couldn’t have asked for a better partner.”
