King Charles allegedly told Diana’s brother ‘we’ll forget her soon enough’ after her death: What Charles Spencer claims in new book
A new claim about the days following Princess Diana’s death has put an old royal family conflict back in the spotlight.
In his upcoming memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, Diana’s younger brother Charles Spencer recalls a heated phone call with the then-Prince Charles over whether Princes William and Harry should walk behind their mother’s coffin at her funeral.
According to an excerpt from the book published ahead of its September 22 release, Spencer claims that Charles made a striking remark about Diana during the conversation.
“‘Rest assured,’ he hissed, ‘we’ll forget her soon enough!’” Spencer writes, according to the excerpt published by the Daily Mail and reported by PEOPLE.
Spencer says he was stunned by the comment and eventually told Charles, “I can’t believe you just said that,” before ending the call.
The claim has now prompted a rare response from Buckingham Palace.
