As it is, snakes are among the scariest slithering reptiles that one would hardly want to have encounters with.But certainly it seems that this unwished-for scenario has just come true.A toilet-checking video from the Philippines is making rounds online, and honestly, it’s the kind of thing that makes you want to double-check every bathroom you walk into for a while. A group of friends went on a relaxing holiday, only to end up in a moment straight out of a nightmare, where they had an unexpected encounter with a venomous reptile staring back at them.

King Cobra stares out of toilet, visitors mistake it for an unflushed toilet
The incident happened at a resort in Don Salvador Benedicto, located within the Northern Negros Natural Park in Negros Occidental, Philippines. Five friends on vacation got the surprise of their lives when a juvenile king cobra’s head popped out of the toilet bowl in their bathroom.A person from the group, Dranreb Teodoso, an executive assistant at a venture capital firm, filmed the king cobra in the toilet bowl. According to Digicast Negros, a Philippines-based news platform, their friend, a priest, had just used the toilet when he noticed a dark object inside the bowl and assumed he hadn’t flushed properly, so he flushed again. But what he saw to his shock was a snake’s head emerging from the pothole. He immediately put the lid down and warned his friends not to use the toilet.
Initially, it was thought to be a “harmless water snake”
The group initially thought the snake was just a harmless rat snake or water snake. It was only after he shared the video in a group chat of reptile enthusiasts that it was confirmed to be a king cobra.According to The Sun, the group initially found it difficult to accept their friend’s warning about the snake, and one of them rushed to check the toilet for himself. A video of the moment has gone viral, showing one of the guests carefully lifting the toilet lid and gently poking the reptile with a long stick, after which the snake slithered out and appeared to flick its tongue while staring at the person filming.The snake that eventually emerged crawled onto the bathroom sink and measured around four feet in length, Teodoso said.
